Just completed a monologue and entered it into a competition. It was a cathartic experience as I wrote about my marriage and my husbands death. It was good reliving some of the funny moments of our life together. Our first date was interrupted by a fireman who dashed passed our table wielding an axe. The chef had set fire to the kitchen, the room was full of smoke but we didn't notice.
So often as a writer we make use of our personal experiences and yet we can still write about things we don't know about like murder and crime.
